This Association was incorporated as a non-profit making Company under Section 25 of The Companies Act, 1956.
The main objects of the Association also known as IPLPA are:
To promote the understanding of the necessity for protection of intellectual property in the broadest sense in particular trademarks, service marks, trade names, indications of source, appellations of origin, patents, plant varieties, breeders rights, bio-diversity, Utility Models, Industrial Designs, Copyright, passing off, Unfair competition and unfair and restricted practices, trade secrets, communications, technical know-how; data protection; Internet law, Legal issues and to encourage understanding and further development of the protection of intellectual property, its exploitation and use by individuals, trade, commerce and industry.
To afford the members of the Company in various geographical areas of India and other SAARC Countries a suitable instrumentality and/or a suitable Forum for close co-operation in achieving the objects of the Company. The Company shall establish and sanction such local chapters as may be deemed necessary or desirable to achieve the objects of the Company.
To encourage and support the study and compare existing intellectual property Laws and proposed new laws, with a view to taking steps to protect and harmonise them.
